Susan Sugarman is a freelance food stylist, based in New York City.

A former food editor at Martha Stewart Living, Susan had the opportunity to grow with the company for over 13 years. As food editor, she was responsible for creating a wide range of stories; from writing and developing the recipes to styling the food on set. In addition, Susan lent her expertise to many other areas of the company, working in the television studios on Martha Stewart’s Emmy award winning TV show and overseeing the sets of Martha Stewart segments on CBS and NBC.

Susan was instrumental in the development stages of the Martha Stewart Everday brand sold at Kmart, consulting on the design of the kitchen equipment as well as styling the food that appeared on the packaging and signage. She also developed segments for Martha’s syndicated newspaper column and was the food stylist for the Martha By Mail catalogs. As the food editor in charge of special issues, Susan created several best selling issues including “Martha Stewart Holiday Cookies”, “Martha Stewart Holiday Party Foods” and “Martha Stewart Holiday Baking”.

In 2004, Susan was given her own food column which appeared bi-monthly in Martha Stewart Living entitled “How It Is Done”. This column spoke from her food experts’ point of view and was meant to enlighten the readers with her tips and secrets from the kitchen. Her final endeavor at MSLO was as the food editor of “Martha Stewart’s Baking Handbook” overseeing the content of the book, as well as developing and testing the recipes.

Prior to her years with Martha Stewart, Susan was owner and chef of three highly acclaimed Manhattan restaurants.

Along with food styling, Susan can provide recipe development and ideas for future stories. She has shot on location all around the United States and is happy to travel for shoots.
